General

• If you are using Windows 7 on a 64-bit system, please verify that you have the Microsoft fix for user mode callback exceptions KB976038. This fix ensures that Autodesk receives the correct data from Inventor error reports. For more information, and access to this fix and related Microsoft downloads, see Autodesk Technical Solution 15492718.
• Update your operating system before you install Autodesk Inventor 2018. Reboot your system after all security updates, etc., are installed.
• Close all Autodesk applications before installation, maintenance, or uninstallation of the software.
• If you download the source files to a local folder with a name that contains non-English characters, ensure that the language in Regional Settings is consistent with the language name of the local folder.

Installation

• All Autodesk 2018 Beta products that use Autodesk Licensing Service 5.1.1 (shows as 5.1 in control panel) must be fully removed using Autodesk uninstall tool (not control panel) prior to installing Autodesk applications that use subsequent versions of Autodesk Licensing Service. Examples of applications that must be fully removed before installing:
1. Autodesk Inventor 2018 Beta
2. Autodesk AutoCAD 2018 Beta
3. Autodesk Recap (version 3.1.2.5 or version 4.0.0.5)
• Autodesk Inventor 2018 installs .NET 4.6 to your operating system.
• If the installer prevents you from installing one or more products, pause the cursor over the red 'prohibited' circle beside the product name for more information.
• Make sure the Inventor install path does not contain double-byte characters when installing Inventor on a single-byte operating system.
• Installation is sometimes slow due to Microsoft security update KB2918614. If so, the installation will require 2-3 hours to complete. For more information, please refer to Microsoft support page.
• A Warning 1946 dialog may be seen during installation. This is a benign Microsoft warning and can be safely ignored. Simply click OK on the dialog.
• When you try to extract Autodesk SFX files on Windows 7 without an internet connection, a message displays indicating the publisher cannot be verified. To resolve this issue, see Installation Files Not Extracting from SFX Download.

Uninstallation

• During uninstallation, if error 1910 displays, click OK to continue. Then delete the shortcut that remains on the desktop. This is a Microsoft issue. Additional issues can be viewed on the Microsoft tech page. There is no solution for these issues now.

Before you begin...

1. Install all Windows Updates that are pending on your machine and reboot:

Windows 7 SP1 64-bit: Windows Update is in the Control Panel, which is accessible from the Start menu.

Windows 8.1 64-bit: Windows Update is in the Control Panel, on the desktop Charms Bar, Settings menu.

Windows10 64-bit: Windows Update is in the Setting menu, which is accessible from the Start menu.

Note: It may be necessary to perform Windows Update multiple times to completely update your operating system.

2. Verify that enough disk space is available on your machine to install Autodesk Inventor 2018.

To install Autodesk Inventor 2018:

For Electronic Fulfillment users only:

1. Download the appropriate Inventor 2018 installation files to a temporary location on your computer hard drive.
2. To access the installer, double-click the self-extracting executable file, which will extract to your temp folder. If this temporary location is nested too many levels deep, your operating system may display an error indicating the path to the EXE is too long.
3. We recommend that you use the default destination folder, which is 'C:Autodesk', as the self-extracting destination folder name. After the file is extracted, the Inventor install wizard launches automatically. If it does not launch, browse to the folder where all files were extracted and double-click setup.exe.
4. To set preferences, in the Install > Configure Installation dialog box, click the expandable arrow.
5. After configuration, begin the installation.
6. When the installation is done, click Finish.
7. A system reboot is sometimes required.

For DVD users only:

1. The Inventor installer wizard launches automatically after you insert the DVD. If it does not launch, open the DVD disc and double-click setup.exe to start the installation.
2. After configuration, confirm all your preferences are set as required before starting the installation.
3. When the installation is done, click Finish.
4. A system reboot is sometimes required.

For more detailed instructions, please refer to the installation instructions provided with your delivered media containing Autodesk Inventor 2018.

To verify the installation was successful, start Inventor. On the Help menu, select About Autodesk Inventor. If the About box displays: Build: 112, Release: 2018, the installation was successful.

• We recommend that you use a certified graphics card, and that your graphics card driver is up to date. See the Autodesk Inventor 2018 Release cards and drivers.
• For laptop computers with both an NVidia GeForce GPU and an Intel integrated GPU, change graphics from discrete GPU to Intel HD integrated graphics to ensure that Inventor 2018 works correctly.
• Inventor uses TrueType and OpenType fonts. Other fonts are not supported.
• For the document window title, Autodesk Inventor 2018 follows the setting 'Hide Extension for known file types' in Windows Explorer, such as Microsoft Word or Excel.
• When working with assemblies with more than 25000 components, we recommend that you use a 64-bit machine with 20 GB or more of physical RAM.

Application Functionality

• 167010 Changing text appearance such as font and size does not impact the model browser.
• 167035 The Electrical Catalog browser dialog cannot be resized. It can be resized after docking it to Model panel with tab structure, or docking it to non-top position in Inventor.
• 168055 API issues cause problems with the Model and Vault browser search.
• 169759 Vault browser may not stay docked after switching documents.
• 172805 Inventor unexpectedly exits while searching the browser, you hold the shift key and filter for features in the browser.
• 173409 The design view context menu continues to display after pressing F1 for help. To dismiss, select a different context menu option.
• 173583 Browser search may be slow even if you apply filters and the filter may not work if you stop the search.
• 173787 The Vault browser panel may no longer display if you refresh the current file. Switch to another file, or go to My Home then back to your file, or selecting Vault from the View tab > User Interface panel can resolve the issue.
• 173984 After starting a browser search, it may be difficult to change the search items, as the browser refresh rate is slow.
• 174633 Cannot search the file name of legacy Content Center file, change the file type with Rename Browser Nodes command in Assemble tab > Productivity panel then search can work.
• 174847 Out of date filters may continue to display a search result after executing Update or Rebuild All in an assembly.
• 174877 Inventor sometimes unexpectedly exits if you click the browser filter during search in a large assembly.

Assembly Modeling

• Inventor unexpectedly exits after clicking Preview button in Shrinkwrap dialog and start another command without canceling Shrinkwrap.

Connected Design on A360

• Connected Design on A360 functionality is no longer loaded by default when you open a part or assembly file. You must load Inventor Connect Design add-in using the Add-in Manager. Once loaded, the Connected Design entry button displays in a part or assembly file in the bottom right corner of the graphics window.

Drawing Manager

• If the assembly files saved in Express mode in 2017 contain mesh parts, the mesh objects will not appear in the drawing view in 2018. To make the mesh objects appear in drawing view, you can try to open every part file and move the End of Part to the top and down, or suppress the mesh node and then unsuppress it.
• Modified Display Line Weights may not behave as expected when you switch to another sheet.

Guided Tutorials

• Installing 2018 will remove 2017 tutorial files that are automatically installed with Inventor. This will cause the 2017 Learning Path to not be usable.
• Videos that you attach to a tutorial should not be larger than 25 MB.
• Replacing a video in a tutorial does not delete the video you are replacing from the docstore causing the tutorial size to increase. To get around this issue delete the video and add a new video instead.

Part Modeling

• 172067 The display value sometimes is out of date for partial chamfer, but the result is correct.

Performance

• There is a known limitation that the graphics performance does not perform well on machines with lower end graphics devices due to insufficient GPU memory, such as NVIDIA Quadro FX1700 card with 512 MB memory. It is recommended to use a GPU device with more than 1 GB memory for better graphics performance.
• When changing to different visual styles or doing other view operations, you might see some components being dropped in the first few frames; after doing further interaction operations, the view will recover back to normal.
• Graphics performance under the following visual styles may be slow: 1) Wireframe with Visible Edges only, 2) Wireframe with Hidden Edges, and 3) Watercolor.
• The graphics performance improvement under Express mode may not be as obvious compared to Full mode for some datasets.
